Geography
Curriculum Intent
Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject which helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives; to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. The curriculum is designed develop knowledge and skills that are progressive, as well as transferable, throughout their time at Corpus Christi and also to their further education and beyond.
Through the teaching of geography, we develop children to think like geographers and talk like geographers: develop their questioning, acquiring, organising and analysing geographic information, to make interpretations and connections, and to understand context.
What our children think of Geography at Corpus Christi!
''I really like geography because I love learning about other countries and places in the world. I love doing the fieldwork in every topic'' (Chikamso, Year 3)
''I love our learning in geography especially about the continents and oceans. I have learned lots of new things about places I never knew before.'' (Weston, Year 3)
''The reason why I like geography is because our lessons are always fun and we get to do lots of different activities. I have enjoyed looking at pictures from different places and drawing maps. We have learned to draw a key and compass to go with our maps.'' (Freya, Year 4)
What our Geography Governor thinks of Geography at Corpus Christi!
''The children at Corpus Christi are enthusiastic about geography in school. They enjoy talking about things that they have learned and have spoken to me about some of the fieldwork that they have completed. The children are given a fantastic opportunity to deploy and learn knew skills and are encouraged to become independent geographers.'' (Bill)
