St John Henry Newman fulfilled his mission to love God and serve others during his lifetime. Following his example, children can become missionaries of God’s love, too.

Our Class Charity

Homeless Aid UK

Helping the homeless and those in need.

We are a family put together by Christ, therefore we should look after the people on this Earth. This being just one of the reasons we have chosen our class charity.

Kingfisher Class - Our Curriculum 2024-2025

P.E

PE will take place on a Wednesday afternoon. This year, children will be required to attend school in their appropriate P.E. kit and trainers.  They will no longer keep their P.E. kit in school however, should you wish, plimsoles may be kept in school in your child’s locker. Please do not send  your child’s P.E. kit into school.  As a reminder, P.E. kit is white t-shirt, navy shorts/jogging bottoms and trainers.

Please ensure that ALL items of clothing including pumps are labelled with your child’s name.

Kingfisher Class will be going swimming in Summer term as part of their P.E. curriculum.

Homework

Homework

Homework will always be given with the exception of school holidays. Homework is set on Google Classrooms which can be accessed via numerous devices (laptop, computer, tablet/iPad, phone). Work can be returned as a typed document. Children will also be provided with exercise books to keep at home which may be used to complete work and then a photo uploaded to Google Classrooms. The logins will remain the same and the children will be reminded.

This year, all children will be given paper copies of all homework set on Google Classroom.  This homework must be completed in the exercise books given and handed in by the following Monday morning at the latest.

All of Kingfishers logins to access the platforms can be found on the inside page of their Home Reading Record.

Reading

As well as set homework, your child should also spend time at home reading. He/she will bring home a book from school. This book must be read as your child will have been assessed and set to match their reading band age.

Each child will also recieve a reading record. The record should be filled in every time the child reads at home (minimum 4 x per week). The children should make notes about what they have read each week. This can be signed by parents/carers however children can also write in how much is read to document.

Spellings

Children will be assessed and placed into groups for their spellings lessons. Spelling/phonics lessons will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday morning. Spelling tests will take place every Tuesday. Spellings are best learnt little and often rather than all the night before.

Times Tables

Your child should also regularly practise their times tables up to 12 times tables. To help with maths progress, they must know all their tables with confidence and be able to recall them rapidly. On Google Classroom Kingfisher have links they can access with times table songs, quizzes and games which we look at in class so they are familiar with. The same links are attached below. It is important to include repetition into our times tables, as well as making it fun for Kingfisher - which they have proven to really enjoy!
