Curriculum Intent

At Corpus Christi, we recognise the value of a well-coordinated and progressive physical education curriculum. We have based our curriculum on the requirements of the National Curriculum to ensure that our children develop competence across different disciplines in a broad range of physical activities. Many of our children attend sporting activities outside school and we have very successful football and netball teams with our children competing against neighbouring schools.

Whilst we have created our progression map for physical education, starting with our nursery children, we work alongside Dream Big Sports to deliver an appropriate curriculum. We are conscious of supporting the few children in school that have physical disabilities and have made adaptation to the curriculum accordingly.

In Years 3 and 4 we also undertake swimming lessons with the aim that all children leave Corpus Christi being able to swim a distance of 25 metres and being competent in using at least one recognised swimming stroke.

Catholic Social Teachings

The P.E. curriculum at Corpus Christi provides many opportunities for children to develop their knowledge and understanding of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, and to action that commitment through good works and words that show we live our faith in our community as a force for good. Students will work in solidarity to support their teammates and work towards achieving common goals. We teach the children to show compassion and equality to each other by remembering that we are all made in the image and likeness of God.
