In the Summer Term, Year 1 will be taking part in the Phonics Screening Test. It will test the children's ability to decode words using their phonics knowledge. In school we teach phonics daily using the Floppy's Phonics Scheme.

Phonics Bloom Games Phonics Play Games Alphablocks Year 1 Common Exception Words

We give out weekly spellings in Year 1. Our spellings are focused on the phonemes we have been learning that week. We then do our spelling test the following Friday. You can access our weekly spellings and the Year 1 common exception words on Spelling Shed.

Each week maths homework will be sent home, this will link with the learning the children are doing in class. Homework is then due in the following Thursday. Your child will also change their books twice a week and it would be helpful if you read with your child and sign their reading record.

Dancing Through the Decades

KS1 have been learning about how childhoods have changed in their history topic, 'Childhood Then and Now'. They had the opportunity to see how dances have changed over the decades in a workshop. Take a look at some of their moves below.

 Trip to Fireground

Our first topic in history was the Great Fire of London. To learn about the changes to the fire service, we went on a trip to Fireground.
